The Truth About Meditation
Meditation is a holistic discipline by which the practitioner attempts to get beyond the reflexive, “thinking” mind into a deeper state of relaxation or awareness, While Buddhist meditation encompasses a variety of meditation techniques that develop mindfulness, concentration, supramundane powers, tranquility, and insight.
We meditate everyday so that we can face the world with a clear mental attitude, maybe you want to go read more about the other article I wrote about why should we meditate, I remember someone wrote me an email asking me how should they start meditation, and then I asked what do you know about meditation they said…well I know you just sit down concentrate on your breathing and if any though try to get in the way just let it go and get your attention back on your breathing, then I said well that’s a good way to start.
To get a good grasp on the concept of meditation just imagine you need pure natural water as your source of energy to get different tasks done within a small town, and the purer the water the efficient the perfomance, and you have to transport that water from the natural springs to the city, on it’s way down from the mountains it encounters different pullutants, mud, dirty animals swimming on it, there is an industry that pours down it’s pollutants into the stream of water..and more and more, by the time it reach that city, it’s as dirty as mud, and that city goes on doing it’s normal activities now knowing that they could increase their perfomance with efficiency by either purifying their water or get a connection from the original source.
This pure natural water is your state of mind, when you are calm and relaxed you see things in more details than when you are under stress and pressure, that’s why it’s very important to meditate every morning, When you go through the day you meet negative people, a pissed off boss, all these negative energies pollute your mind and you carry it with you without knowing why your perfomance is always low,
It’s A Way Of Living
So lets get back to the natual spring water, when you meditate in the morning you start losing that state of awareness the very moment you stopped meditating, depending on the kind of environment you live in but that state of awareness gets our of you very fast and maybe within an hour you are back in the same “muddy” state of awareness, and you are operating just like everybody else, because you understand the concept of meditation you can push it further and make it your way of living, for example like me when I am driving I try to focus my attention at that moment and I expand my awareness in that place seing the vehicle moving, hearing their sound, look at the rhythms and pattern of the traffic etc, so even though I did some meditation in the morning, I still retain that state of awareness by meditating on what is there, most of the time I have even went higher into state of tranquility and understand things in more detail than when I do my 15 minutes meditation, and I have try to entergrate it with my daily activities when;
I am taking a shower I oftern pay my attention to the water flowing on top of my skin I feel all those droplets of water hiting different spot of my skin surface I just relax and be there I become one with that place, Eating I do the same thing but pay attention to the taste of the food temperature sometimes if the food is not good for you I usually get some impressions, having a conversation, writing, working even though sometimes I lose that state but I find it very usefully, Think about Newton, why would he discovered the gravity? It’s because of the state of awareness he was he saw things in more detail and how they are connected with each other. You attain a genius level, Just try it and have the experience for yourself you gain more energy and start to see things in different percepective than before.
You may find people enrolled in meditation classes for years but they never change at all, it’s because they haven’t really intergrate it in their lives they always go back to that state of muddy awareness as soon as they leave their meditation room.
